There is one pick tonight.
Oakland Athletics (-102) on the ML against Seattle Mariners risking 3.06% to win 3%.
(Jackson and Hernandez must start for wager to have action)
The Oakland Athletics took one on the chin last night, ultimately losing to the Seattle Mariners 10-8 in extra innings. The Athletics firmly had the game in control (twice) last night, mounting a 3 runs lead in the 1st, only to see it squandered and then once again led 8-5 in the 8th inning, before allowing the Mariners to score in both the bottom of the 8th and 9th to send the game to extras.
Their loss last night allowed the Houston Astros to clinch the NL West and has now put them in a very unfavorable spot. They know that they will be playing in the Wildcard matchup against the New York Yankees, the only thing that has yet to be determined is where that game is to be played. Oakland sits 2.5 games behind New York in the standings, so another loss tonight would likely determine that Oakland will be headed to the Bronx for that 1-game playoff and that is not a position they want to find themselves in.
The Athletics should bounce back tonight as they were clearly the better team last night, but simply could not hold on to the lead. It was the first game this season where the A's have lost after leading past the 8th inning, which is a testament to how good their bullpen has been this season. Off-nights like last night happen, so we expect the A's pen to be motivated tonight to not have a repeat occurrence.
Oakland should have the edge on the mound tonight as well as Edwin Jackson squares off against Felix Hernandez. Jackson has been great this season, allowing 3 runs or less in 8 of his last 10 appearances on the mound. He has also been steady on the road, sporting a 3.00 ERA on the season. Hernandez on the other hand, has been inconsistent this season. In some starts he looks like his old self, while in others it appears that time has gotten the better of him. He has a 5.00 ERA in his last 9 innings and has struggled against Oakland, allowing 10 runs in his last 16.2 innings against them. IF the A's jump out to a lead tonight, we expect them to hold onto it. With a bit of revenge and desperation fueling them, we feel the value is on Oakland tonight.
