There is one pick tonight.
Oakland Athletics (-105) on the ML against Seattle Mariners risking 3.15% to win 3%.
(Anderson and Leake must start for wager to have action)
As the end of the regular season draws near, this is where motivation plays a key role in the performances of certain teams down the stretch. The Seattle Mariners have been eliminated from postseason contention, which makes us question exactly how much they have left in the tank, knowing that they truly have nothing remaining to play for. After such a promising start to the season, the Seattle players must be crushed as their regular season comes to a close and are likely just simply looking forward to heading into the offseason.
For the Oakland A's however, they have been one of the best teams in baseball this season and continue to produce almost on a nightly basis. While they have their postseason berth locked up, they still have quite a bit to play for as they are currently chasing the New York Yankees for the top Wildcard spot. Having that spot is a huge advantage heading into next week's Wildcard game as the owner of the top spot gets home field advantage for the one-game playoff. While homefield isn't as much of an advantage in baseball as it is in other sports, the fact that a team's season essentially comes down to one game, it's important to get any advantage you can.
Brett Anderson hasn't been overly impressive for the A's as of late, but is coming off a very respectable outing, where he gave up just 3 hits over 6.7 scoreless innings over the Angels. He has had quite a bit of success against the Mariners in his career however, going 8-4 with a 1.76 ERA and WHIP of 1.096 over 17 career starts. Mike Leake, on the other hand, has been ho-hum this season with a 10-10 overall record and 4.10 ERA, which is to be exacted. He is coming off a tough game against the Houston Astros in his last start, giving up 6 hits and 5 earned runs over 6.3 innings. He is 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA in his career against Oakland, most recently giving up 6 earned runs on 11 hits (with 2 homeruns) back on 8/31.
With Oakland just 1.5 games back of the Yankees, each game becomes that much more important for the A's. The same can't be said for the Mariners. We wouldn't be surprised if they sleep-walk through this contest and that's not something any team can afford to do against Oakland. At these odds, the value is on the A's tonight.
