There is one college football pick tonight.
Tulsa +7 spread (buy the half point) against Temple risking 3% of the bankroll.
These teams are very similar in terms of talent, however, from a stylistic standpoint, we believe that Tulsa has the better overall matchup in this contest. The Temple Owls run a pro-style offense that is very straightforward and has often been predictable. The play calling is often 'boring’, and they play a style of game that truly embodies the 'grind-it-out-' mantra. Meanwhile, Tulsa employs a style of offense that mixes things up with option reads between QB Luke Skipper and tailback Shamari Brooks. They also employ some RPOs to help aid the passing game. Their ability to mix up plays and keep Temple guessing on defense is going to be what gives them the advantage in this contest.
Looking at the home / road splits of these two teams, it's very interesting. Typically, teams at home perform much better than when on the road, however, that doesn't appear to be the case in this matchup. The Owls have dropped their first 2 home games this season as favorites and are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games dating back to last season. Meanwhile, the Golden Hurricane has amassed a 15-5-1 ATS mark in their last 21 games on the road.
If you look back over Philip Montgomery’s tenure in Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane usually plays well in these nationally televised contests. They seem to always step up when there is a bigger audience, and this will be a great opportunity to get this program heading in the right direction after a dismal 2017 campaign. It's easy to forget that this Tulsa team won 10 games in 2016. Coach Montgomery was on the hot seat heading into this season and another disappointing loss to Temple this week could spell the end of his time in Tulsa. This is a big matchup for Tulsa on a nationally televised stage and even if they don't pick up the outright victory, we believe that they should at least keep this game competitive and stay within the touchdown spread.
