There is one MLB pick today.
Oakland Athletics (+183) on the ML against New York Yankees risking 3% to win 5.49%.
(Severino must start for wager to have action)
Another team's season all comes down to this game tonight as the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees battle for the AL Wildcard spot.
It's an interesting matchup from a handicapping perspective since there are so many variables that need to be taken into consideration. The Yankees will turn the ball over to Luis Severino, who is no stranger to Wildcard games. Although the Yankees managed to win the game, Severino was roasted in the first inning, giving up 3 earned runs on 2 homers, which seems to be Severino's MO. At times he can be brilliant on the mound, but there are others where he simply seems out of sorts. With this game being win or go home, it will be interesting to see which Severino takes the mound tonight.
For the A's, they are going with a rather unconventional route of starting the game off with mid-reliever, Liam Hendricks. Oakland has 12 pitcher’s lineups up for this contest and appears that they are going to use most of them in short inning spurts to simply keep NY off balance. It seems like a risky strategy on the surface, however, we believe its likely Oakland's best chance to come away with a win. Hendricks pitched one shutout inning against the Yankees back on September 4th and there is rumor that Oakland will also use All-Star closer Blake Treinen for more than one inning tonight, if the game script requires.
There is no question that the Yankees are the 'bigger name' team in this contest however, there is not much that separates these two teams in this contest. Both have solid pitching, and both have explosive bats in their lineups. We wouldn't be surprised if this was another closely contested contest which is decided in the final inning (or possibly extras). With that said, the Yankees are listed as 2:1 favorites in this contest and we feel that their price is simply inflated. For that reason, and in a game that could really go either way, the value is on the A's tonight.
