There is one pick tonight.
Take Chicago Cubs (-134) on the ML against Pittsburgh Pirates risking 4.02% to win 3%.
(Hendricks and Musgrove must start for wager to have action.)
After starting the season hot, the Pittsburgh Pirates have been ice-cold recently, dropping eight of their last 10 games, with five of those being against divisional opponents. After once sitting atop the NL standings, they now find themselves in 4th place in the division and in the midst of a 4-game losing streak.
The Cubs are starting to play much better baseball as of late and their offense has finally seemingly come to life. they have scored an average of 6.5 runs per game over their last 5 games and are now in a position to sweep the Pirates at home and have a good chance to do so as we believe they will have a decisive edge on the mound tonight as Kyle Hendricks takes on Joe Musgrove.
Hendricks boasts five quality starts in his last six outings and seven of his 10 starts this season. He’s coming off one of his best outings of the season, striking out seven and allowing only two hits, over seven innings to beat San Francisco. Hendricks is 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA in 11 starts against the Pirates, including a 2-0 mark and a 3.00 ERA in five outings at PNC Park.
His opponent, Joe Musgrove, was outstanding in his first big-league start of the season against St. Louis, striking out seven and allowing five hits over seven scoreless innings. While he was impressive in his seasonal debut, we don't expect him to have similar success tonight. The 25-year-old bounced between the bullpen and the rotation with Houston the past two seasons but has had more success as a reliever than he has when inserted in the starting rotation. He is just 9-12 with a 5.11 ERA in 26 career starts, including a loss to the Cubs in 2016.
It's normally tough to sweep a team three straight times, especially at home, however, these two teams are currently heading in opposite directions. If Hendricks can continue to pitch as he has been all season, the Cubs bats should be able to score off Musgrove and come away with a closely contested victory.
