There is one pick today.
Take Arizona Diamondbacks (+155) on the ML against Oakland A's risking 3% to win 4.65%.
(Buchholz and Mengden must start for wager to have action.)
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been mired in a huge slump over the last couple of weeks, having previously lost 7 straight and 13 of their last 15. This happens in baseball; good teams go on cold streaks and when that happens, it naturally skews the perception of the betting public. The public has been avoiding the DBack during this slump and in turn, the odds have reflected that. The thing is, Arizona's losing streak is not going to continue for the rest of the season, eventually they will find their way out of it, like all teams do, and they will get back to playing quality baseball.
We saw a glimpse of that last night when the DBacks absolutely pounded the A's in a 7-1 victory. What was impressive about that game was not so much that Arizona finally managed to win a game, but that they were able to generate quite a bit of offense against Oakland's Ace, Sean Manea. The scattered double-digit hits and slammed Manea for 6 earned runs enroute to their victory. It was the first time since early May the DBack amassed double-digit hits and they did so against the best pitcher in Oakland's rotation! That is what is impressive. Arizona built themselves quite a bit of momentum last night and we expect that it carries over into this afternoon's contest. Let's not forget that Arizona has won 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
Clay Buchholz will be making his second start of the year for Arizona in this contest. Buchholz is a veteran wo appears nearing the end of his career and this could be his last shot in the Majors. He started the season with the Kansas City Royals but was released before he could make a single major league start. He spent some time in the KC and Arizona minor leagues before being called back up to the big show. Buchholz made the most of his opportunity in his debut, tossing 6 innings of 2 hit ball while giving up just a single run. It was a throwback performance for him, but with his career potentially on the line, we weren't surprised by the display. We expect Buchholz to have another quality showing in this contest as his back is up against the wall once again. Oakland has struggled to put runs on the board as of late, scoring two or less in 3 of their last 4.
At these odds, it’s tough to trust Oakland's struggling offense, especially given that the Arizona bats showed some explosiveness last night. If they can carry their momentum over, they should be able to generate enough offense off Mengden to come away with a victory and once again reward their backers with a hefty payout. The value is on Arizona in this contest.
