There are two picks today. Both plays are on the Run Line (-1.5 runs).
#1: Take Chicago Cubs (+135) on the RL against Minnesota Twins risking 3% to win 4.05%
(Chatwood and Mejia must start for wager to have action.)
When the Chicago Cubs offense is locked in, they are one of the most explosive and dangerous offense in the league, and at this moment, they are completely locked in. They have scored double-digits in consecutive contests and have a good chance of making in three in a row this afternoon.
The Minnesota Twins will be sending Adalberto Mejia to the mound tonight in his first big-league appearance of the season. Mejia has spent this season in Triple-A Rochester and while he has had some success there, he has a tall task ahead of him this afternoon against a Cubs team that is seeing the ball well. Chicago has also dominated left-handed pitchers this season, going 12-5 in 17 matchups this season.
As a team, the Twins have been struggling as well. Minnesota comes into this contest having lost 6 of 8, with their average margin of defeat being a -5. The Cubs meanwhile are a +5 in their last 3 victories. The Cubs will get Tyler Chatwood back in the rotation after spending some time on paternity leave. Chatwood has had some control issues this season, but prior to missing his last start, he had been pitching well, giving up just 5 earned runs in his previous 15 innings of work.
Mejia is a wildcard in this matchup, given that the Cubs lineup has not seen him, however, given how well they have bene plating runs, we feel it is only a matter of time before they get a read on him. It's also worth mentioning that the Cubs are tied at the top of the league for most come-from-behind victories, so they can never be counted out of a ballgame. Even if this is a closely contest matchup throughout, the Cubs only need one swing of the bats to blow this game open. They should pick up the win over the unproven Mejia and there is value expecting them to do so by more than a single run.
#2: Take Texas Rangers (+155) on the RL against Chiago White Sox risking 3% to win 4.65%
(Colon and Rodon must start for wager to have action.)
A couple of weeks ago, it appeared that the Texas Rangers season was over. They fell to 17-games under .500 and all hopes of making the playoffs seemed lost. Fast forward to today and the Rangers have breathed new life into their season, taking advantage of a soft-spot in their schedule by winning 10 of their last 13 against sub .500 opponents. They will have a chance to build on their momentum tonight as they continue their series with the Chicago White Sox.
The Rangers jumped all over the White Sox last night in the opener by belting 5 homeruns and coming away with an 11-3 victory. The Rangers offense has been locked in recently, averaging more than 6 runs per game, while limiting their opponents to just 3 runs per game during their recent surge.
Barolo Colon will take the mound tonight for the Rangers and is still looking to cement his name in the record books. Colon could become the winningest pitcher from the Dominican Republic is he is able to pick up the win over the White Sox tonight. Colon has been pitching well as of late, however, he took the hard-luck loss against the Twins in his most recent outing despite giving up only 2 earned runs over 7 innings. Colon should come out in this contest motivated to pick up the win and given how inconsistent the White Sox bats have been recently, should have a good chance to complete that elusive milestone.
The White Sox are 3-2 against the Rangers this season, however, except for last night's blowout, all the games have been played in Chicago. When Texas has won, their average margin of victory has been by an average of 7.5 runs. With this game once again being played in Arlington, the advantage has to reside with Texas and there is value in believing their victory will come by more than a single run.
