There are two picks tonight.
#1: Take Arizona Diamondbacks (+119) on the ML against Colorado Rockies risking 3% to win 3.57%
(Miller and Marquez must start for wager to have action.)
Even though we listed the starting pitchers in this matchup tonight, we don't believe one has the advantage over the other. In fact, we don't believe the starting pitchers are likely to factor into the final decision in this contest at all.
Miller has been a downright dumpster fire since his return from Tommy John surgery. He is 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA and WHIP of 1.786 over his last three starts. Meanwhile, German Marquez has been just as hittable this season, especially at home where he is just 2-5 with a 7.93 ERA in 9 starts. Both offenses are capable of putting up big numbers in this contest, so we don't believe the starting pitchers will decide things as both could see fairly short evenings tonight.
If that is the case and both teams need to go to their bullpens early, the Diamondbacks will should have a decided advantage. Arizona's relievers have a collective 2.48 ERA on the road this season, which is extremely impressive. The Colorado pen, on the other hand, have a collective 6.19 ERA and have given up nearly 3 times as many runs as Arizona!
Even if Arizona goes down on the scoreboard early, it will be the later stages of this contest where we expect they will make their rally. The Diamondbacks' bats should be able to do damage against the Colorado pen and that is where we expect them to grab the lead and hold on for the victory.
#2: Take Seattle Mariners (+105) on the ML against LA Angels risking 3% to win 3.15%
(Gonzales and Barria must start for wager to have action.)
The Seattle Mariners lost the series opener last night, but we expect this is a contest where they will get their revenge.
The Angels will be sending Jaime Barria to the mound tonight and the Halos have lost each of his last 5 trips to the mound. Barria has also made two total starts versus the Mariners this season and both have come in the past month and he lost both of those outings. He is 0-2 with a 3.48 ERA against Seattle this season, with the Mariners lineup batting a collective .325 in against Barria this season.
The Mariners will turn to lefty Marco Gonzales for another start against the Angels this season. This will be Gonzales’ fourth outing against L.A. in the past nine weeks and his second straight start against this team. He has been particularly dominant as of late, allowing just two earned runs over his past two starts, spanning 15 innings of work. Gonzales followed up a complete game gem against the Kansas City Royals by limiting the Angels to just one earned run in six innings in his last outing. The southpaw has now completed six innings or more in seven of his last eight starts and the team is 6-2 in those games.
Seattle lost last night’s game but are still 5-1 in the last 6 meetings. We expect them to put last night's contest behind them as they ride the arm of Gonzalez in this one and even up the series one game apiece.
