There is one pick today.
Take Depaul +1 spread against Providence for 3% of the bankroll.
The Providence Friars come into this contest off a huge road win over a highly ranked Xavier team and while that win was certainly impressive, we believe it leaves them extremely vulnerable in this contest. Teams typically experience a 'letdown' in their following game after a big win and given Providence's struggles this season, there has been no bigger win for them on the season than their victory against Xavier.
Providence also has another chance to build upon their big win as they host the Butler Bulldogs at home on Monday and there is no question that they will be looking forward to that matchup. That leaves them in another vulnerable spot if they find themselves looking past DePaul and ahead to their matchup with Butler. DePaul has been an unassuming team this season. They have played a tough schedule, but do not have any signature wins on their resume, except maybe a road win over St. Johns in their most recent contest. That being said, this is still a very good offensive team at home, averaging 78.3 points pm 45.6% shooting from the field and should not be looked past. The last two times these teams have met on this floor, Providence has been the favorites and managed to lose both games outright. DePaul has some confidence of their own after their road win and will be looking to carry momentum back to their home floor tonight.
Not only are the Blue Demons an underrated team offensively, they are extremely aggressive on the glass, especially when it comes to cleaning up their own misses. DePaul rank 66th in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage at 33.7%, while Providence ranks 245th in defensive rebounding percentage at 69.8% which could be a huge advantage for the home team.
The Friars are in an unfortunate situational spot tonight and we believe that is going to be their downfall. We expect them to come out a bit flat in the early going of this contest, while DePaul should come out of the gates firing. If Providence underestimates their opponents as we suspect that they will, they could find themselves primed for the upset. This will be a close game, but expect DePaul to pull this one out at home.
