There is one pick today.
Take Penn State +9 spread against Purdue for 3% of the bankroll.
There is no question that the Purdue Boilermakers have fallen on hard times recently. After cruising through the season and looking like a potential Final Four team, the Boilermakers have struggled, dropping their last three straight, culminating with an improbable implosion against Wisconsin. Make no mistake about it, Purdue is a good team, despite their recent play and could still make a deep run in the tournament come March. That being said, you can't ignore the fact that this team is struggling on both ends of the floor and have failed to put up more than 65 points in each of their last 3 games. While they should certainly bounce back on their home court, they will have their work cut out for them against a much improved and red-hot Penn St team.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are starting to turn a lot of heads and have firmly grabbed the attention of the selection committee. The Nittany Lions have won 6 of their last 7 games and in doing so, have defeated the Big Ten leading Ohio State twice during that span. Not only has Penn State defeated Ohio State, but they completely dominated them in their most recent contest and have a ton of momentum heading into this contest with another Big 10 giants. Tony Carr has been sensational this season and is the leading scorer on this Penn State team that is averaging 76 points per game this season. They have been solid on both sides of the ball and given their recent play as of late, have a real chance to upset Purdue on the road tonight, given the Boilermakers recent struggles.
These two teams match up extremely well stylistically. That being said, Purdue will certainly be motivated heading into this matchup to end their recent 3-game losing skid and atone for their late game performance against Wisconsin. We expect Purdue to come out of the gate fast, looking to establish their pace and get ahead on the scoreboard. If Penn State can survive that initial onslaught of attack, they have the playmakers and the style of play to keep this contest close. There is no question that the oddsmakers are still favoring Purdue, despite their recent struggles, however, given the way Penn State has been playing as of late, spotting them nearly double-digits is a dangerous proposition. Even if Penn State fails to capture the outright win, they should keep themselves competitive enough to cover this inflated number.
