There is one pick tonight.
Take New York Mets (-120) on the ML against San Francisco Giants risking 3.60% to win 3%.
(Wheeler and Holland must start for wager to have action)
The San Francisco Giants had been in the thick of the playoff race all season long, but recently it appears that they are running out of steam in the most important stretch of the year. They have lost 4 straight and were just swept in Cincinnati to fall to eight games out of first in the National League West and eight games out in the wildcard race. In the series against the Reds, The Giants were outscored 20-6 in the three games, including 11-4 in the finale. We believe the uphill battle of getting back into the playoff hunt has taken its toll on the players as their body language and play on the field shows just how deflated they have become and that will likely hurt them tonight.
The Mets are also pretty much out of the postseason hunt, however, unlike San Francisco, still seem to have some confidence in their step. They have won 8 of their last 12 games and have Zack Wheeler on the mound tonight who is unbeaten in his last 9 starts and a winner in 6 straight. He has permitted 3 or less run in 7 of his last 9 and has severed up just three homeruns in his last 57 innings during this stretch. Wheeler should thrive in this contest against what has been a very lethargic Giants offense.
The Mets have owned this series as of late, winning 5 of the last 6 against the Giants. We find it interesting that Wheeler was drafted by the Giants in 2009, so this could be a motivating factor for him on the mound to go against the team that let him go early in his career. This is a matchup of two teams currently heading in opposite directions and believe the value sides with the Mets tonight.
