There is one pick today.
Take St. Louis Cardinals (-136) on the ML against Chicago Cubs risking 4.08% to win 3%.(Weaver and Lester must start for wager to have action.)
This is an important series for both teams, however, we believe this series ultimately means so much more to the Cardinals. St. Louis is 6 games behind the Cubs in the battle for the NL Central, however, they do have a chance at a potential Wildcard berth, currently just 2.5 games behind the Colorado Rockies who have been struggling as of late. A good showing in this series against the Cubs could make the race for the Wildcard quite interesting as we head towards the end of the regular season.
The Cardinals should have a good chance to pick up a win in Game 1 as Luke Weaver takes the mound. Weaver has been stellar this season, having gone 7-1 with a 2.05ERA in 11 games (8 starts), including going 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in his last three starts and 3-1 with a 1.35 ERA in six games (four starts) at home. Jon Lester will take the mound for the Cubs and while he is 3-2 over his last 7 starts, fatigue may be catching up with him as he has a 6.51 ERA during that span.
The Cardinals offense has been red-hot recently and is averaging 7 runs per game over their last 5 games. If their bats get going tonight against a struggling Lester, Weaver should pitch well enough on the mound to carry his team to a win. This is an extremely important series for the Cardinals to keep their postseason hopes alive and we believe we'll see them play with a bit of desperation tonight as they come away with a win in Game 1.
