There is one pick today.
Take Colorado Rockies (-117) on the ML against Pittsburgh Pirates risking 3.51% to win 3%.
(Marquez and Kuhl must start for wager to have action)
The Colorado Rockies matched their longest skid of the 2017 season (3 games) after falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 last night. The fact that their longest losing streak this season is just 3 games speaks volumes about how consistent this Rockies team has been this year. It's easy to forget that prior to this stint, the Rockies had piled up 50 runs during a 7-game winning streak and while their offense has gone cold for the moment, we believe tonight is the matchup that will allow them to get back on the winning track.
Chad Kuhl will take the mound for the Pirates in this contest and he is just the pitcher that the Rockies need to once against find their swing as left-handed batters are currently hitting .340 this season. Kuhl comes into this contest just 1-5 with a 5.63 ERA through 12 starts this season. At home, he has been even worse as his ERA balloons up to an unflattering 7.71 through 7 starts. His only win came in his season debut and has not pitched beyond 5 innings since April 18th. There is no doubt that his spot in the rotation is clearly in jeopardy and we don't see him having much success against this potent lineup.
Meanwhile, right-hander German Marquez had a tremendous month of May which saw him allow just a combined 4 earned run but his last two starts have been somewhat of a struggle. He was knocked around by the Padres on June 2nd despite recording a season high 9 strikeouts and then managed to last just 3 innings in his following start against the Cubs. It's worth mentioning that both of those starts for Marquez came on the road and despite those less than stellar performance he still has a respectable 3.24 ERA through 5 contests. He has seemingly pitched much better on the road than at home this season and coming off back-to-back poor outings, we expect Marquez to be able to collect himself and produce a quality showing tonight.
Colorado came into this series with the best record in the National League and currently leads the Majors in road wins this season (24). We were somewhat surprised to see them struggle thus far in this series and expect that they will turn things around in this contest to avoid the sweep. These are decent odds to lay with what should be a desperate Rockies team.
