There is one pick today.
Take Oakland Athletics (+155) on the ML against Toronto Blue Jays risking 3% to win 4.65%.
(Blackburn and Estrada must start for wager to have action)
The Oakland Athletics have dropped the first two games of this series; however, we believe they have their best chance to get back into the series tonight as they are scheduled to face a struggling Marco Estrada.
The right-hander is a disappointing 4-7 with a 5.52 ERA so far this season and things have gone progressively worse for him over the past few months. Estrada was 4-2 with a 3.15 ERA as recently as early June, but he went a disastrous 0-4 with a 9.11 ERA that month. His misfortunes have seemingly carried over into July as he is 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA through three July outings. The 34-year-old has not lasted more than 4.2 innings in any of his last four starts and he has exceeded that total only once in his last seven appearances. Estrada has also struggled against the A's in his career are he is 0-2 with an inflated 8.38 ERA and WHIP of 1.861 in 2 career appearances. He has lasted into the 6th inning in either appearance, with his most recent coming in 2016. This could be an ideal opportunity for the Oakland offense to break out of the slump tonight.
The A's will counter tonight with rookie, Phil Blackburn, whose career is off to a pretty good start. Through four appearances dating back to July 1, the 23-year-old is 1-1 with a 2.88 ERA. He gave up only one run in his first two starts (13.2 innings), but has cooled off just a bit of late. That being said, he has still pitched admirably, conceding just 9 runs (8 earned) in 25 innings of work this season. He has also been relatively good at keeping the ball in the park, surrendering just 3 total homeruns on the season. This will be the first time the Toronto bats have seen Blackburn and that could give the rookie a decisive advantage on the mound.
The Blue Jays offense has shown their ability to go cold at times this season and we wouldn't be surprised if tonight was one of those times. As a team, they are averaging just 3.6 runs per game over their last 10 games and we don't believe that will be enough to get the win tonight. The Oakland bats should have success tonight against Estrada and as long as their bullpen doesn't manage to blow the game late, the A's should come away with a nice underdog victory.
