There is one pick today.
Take Boston Red Sox (-128) on the ML against LA Angels risking 3.84% to win 3%.
(Price and Ramirez must start for wager to have action)
We believe this is a mismatch on the mound tonight as Red Sox pitcher, David Price has seemingly turned the corner and is now pitching like the star that the Red Sox always knew that he was. Price is coming off a fantastic outing in his last start where he went 8 strong innings, giving up zero earned runs and no walks against the New York Yankees. That victory improved his record to 5-2 and lowered his ERA to 3.39. He has now made seven straight starts where he’s given up three earned runs or less. He's gone 4-1 over his last 5 starts and even in his lone loss, he pitched well, giving up just 2 earned runs over 6 innings. Price's WHIP is a respectable 1.21 and batters are only hitting .234 against him this season. Over his last three starts, he has been nearly flawless, giving up just 2 earned runs over his last 20 innings pitched while striking out 22 batters in the process! If Price continues to pitch the way he has been, he could be in line for a strong finish to the season.
JC Ramirez will take the mound for the Angels in this contest. On the season, he is 8-8 with a 4.50 ERA. He has faced the Red Sox already once this season and held their offense in check, surrendering just 4 hits and a single earned run. That being said, he is a much different pitcher now than the one that faced the Sox last month. He comes into this contest having lost three of four including his latest, in which he gave up eight hits and four earned runs in six innings against the Rays. Now that we have seen a bigger sample size from Ramirez, his WHIP is 1.32 and his batting average against is .271, making him pretty much the average pitcher that his 8-8 record suggests.
We don't believe Ramirez will be able to mimic the success that he had against the Red Sox in his first outing. Now that the Boston bats have gotten to view him first hand, we believe they will be much better prepared to generate offense off him tonight. The Red Sox are playing well at the moment and are in a battle to keep their place atop the AL East standings with the Yankees and Baltimore breathing down their necks and can ill afford to drop these types of matchups, where they clearly have the edge on the mound.
We expect Price to outduel his counterpart in this contest and keep this Angels offense in check. As long as his team provides him with even just a bit of run support, the Red Sox should come away with a victory. These are decent odds to lay with a pitcher of Price's caliber.
