There is one pick today.
Take New York Yankees (-105) on the ML against Cleveland Indians risking 3.15% to win 3%.
(Severino and Kluber must start for wager to have action)
This matchup should be one of the more entertaining ones for fans as the Cleveland Indians send their 'Ace', Corey Kluber to the mound to take on the New York Yankees and Luis Severino in the first of their 3-game set from Yankee Stadium. Both pitchers come into this contest pitching lights out on the mound, however, we believe the Yankees will have the slight advantage in this contest playing in front of their home fans.
Corey Kluber suffered his first loss in eight games last Wednesday when the Indians failed to give the ace run support in a 6-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Despite the setback, Kluber was still dominant, striking out 12 and allowing just two runs on four hits over 7.2 innings. Kluber has recorded at least 11 strikeouts in six of his last eight outings and allowed more than three runs just once in his last 16 trips to the mound. That being said, Kluber has proven to be vulnerable at times on the road this season and has a 3.51 ERA over 9 contests and 10 of his 17 homeruns given up this season have come on the highway.
Luis Severino has been terrific since the All-Star break, going 6-1 with an impressive 2.16 ERA over 8 starts. He has now allowed one or zero earned runs in seven of his last eight starts. He also earned the win at Cleveland on August 6th, striking out nine and allowing one run and two hits in 6.2 innings. In 3 career starts against the Tribe, he is 2-0 with an impressive 1.93 ERA.
This is a matchup between two pitchers who will be Cy Young award candidates come the end of the season. That being said, we believe Severino will have a slight edge in this contest pitching at home. The Yankees are also clawing their way close to the top spot in the AL East while Cleveland has been running away with their division. The added motivation for the Yankees to keep pace will give them an added advantage in this contest. These slight advantages should be enough to for the Yankees to come away with the victory.
