There is one pick today.
Take Houston Astros (-131) on the ML against LA Angels risking 3.93% to win 3%.
(Morton and Nolasco must start for wager to have action)
These two teams have traded victories in a pair of 1-run games this series as the Astros managed to claim a 2-1 victory on Friday. The Angels on the other hand, rallied from a 6-1 deficit to complete the come from behind, 7-6 victory as the Astros bullpen completely imploded down the stretch, gifting the Angels with the game.
The way Houston lost the game yesterday isn't something that this team allows to happen often, however, over the course of a long season, does occur from time to time. We believe this as simply a poor outing that cost them the game, but we don't expect their struggles to carry over into this contest. In fact, we believe that loss will motivate this team in this contest and once they build a lead, will be more inclined to do what is necessary to hold onto it.
The starting pitching edge will also once again be in Houston's favor as Charlie Morton will take on Ricky Nolasco. Nolasco is 6-12 with a 5.05 ERA through 26 starts in 2017. The veteran right-hander has not turned in a quality start since he delivered two in succession during late July and early August. He most recently faced Texas on Tuesday, when he allowed one run on five hits and three walks but lasted only 4.2 innings as his pitch count ballooned over 100. Meanwhile, Charlie Morton is a solid 10-6 with a 3.81 ERA this season. Impressively, he has pitched at least five innings in all 19 of his starts. Morton, who missed the month of June, posted monthly ERAs under 4.00 in May and July and he is doing the same so far in August (3.96).
The Angels certainly need to continue to pile up the wins if they want to have any shot of competing for a Wild Card berth this season, however, it will be an uphill battle taking on an Astros team who has not only led the AL for much of the season, but now have the added motivation of coming off a loss. Houston is the better team and it will show in this contest as they atone for yesterday’s performance and end the series with a victory.
