There is one pick today.
Take San Diego Padres (-115) on the ML against Washington Nationals risking 3.45% to win 3%.
(Chacin and Jackson must start for wager to have action)
This is a matchup that we believe is going to be skewed by public perception. On one side, you have the Washington Nationals who are currently the second-best team in the National League taking on one of the worst in the San Diego Padres. On paper, there is no question that Washington is the better overall team, however, as we have seen, especially in the sport of baseball, the 'better' team on paper doesn't always win every matchup and this is one of those instances where we believe the Padres hold the advantage.
The Padres will have the pitching edge in this contest as Jhoulys Chacin take on Edwin Jackson. Chacin is having himself a fairly impressive season and comes into this contest 11-8 with a 4.13 ERA through 24 starts. Where he has really shined however has been at home in Petco Park where he is 7-2 with an ultra-impressive 1.86 ERA and 0.983 WHIP, allowing just 50 hits and 26 walks over 77 innings of work. Jackson on the other hand has been mediocre on the road and comes into this contest just 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA over two starts.
The Padres are coming off a somewhat unimpressive road trip, however they are an impressive 7-2 in their last 9 home games and at the moment, their offense really seems to be clicking, having scored 18 runs over their last 23 games. While Washington is undoubtedly the better team, there is a reason why the odds on this game have shifted the way of the Padres. This is an ideal situation to back an underrated team with the better pitcher on the mound. San Diego finds a way to steal one away from Washington in Game 1.
