There is one pick today.
Take New York Mets (-107) on the ML against Philadelphia Phillies risking 3.21% to win 3%.
(Lugo and Pivetta must start for wager to have action)
If history tells us anything, it's that the Mets have absolutely owned the Phillies in recent meetings. Even though it appears that Philadelphia has been playing better baseball as of late, they have had no answer for the Mets on their home turf in recent years. With last night’s 10-0 loss, the Phillies have now lost 38 of their last 52 home games against the Mets and we don't see things changing in this contest.
The Mets will also have a chance to avenge an earlier season to the Phillies as they get an opportunity to face off against Nick Pivetta for the second time this season. In the first meeting, Pivetta was nothing short of dominant as he held the Mets offense to just a single hit in 7 strong innings of work. The lone hit Pivetta gave up was a solo homerun, however, it was in an extremely impressive outing nonetheless. There is no question that the Mets batting order is looking forward to facing off against Pivetta again in hopes of gaining some manner of revenge and they should have a good chance to do just that tonight.
Pivetta's performance against the Mets back on July 2 was arguably his most impressive start of the season, but it has been all downhill for the right-hander since then. He is just 4-8 with a 5.48 ERA on the season and in his last 3 starts, he has struggled even more as he is 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA during that span. In his most recent start, Pivetta was roughed up by another hard-hitting team in the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies lit him up for 7 hits and 8 runs (6 earned) runs in just 2 innings of work. An outing like that is often tough for a young pitcher to shake off and we wouldn't be surprised if his confidence is just a bit shaken in the early innings of this game. If Pivetta happens to find himself in a jam early on, we wouldn't be surprised to see hi fold under the pressure of the situation due to a lack of confidence.
The Mets lineup may be a bit depleted, however they are still a power hitting team with a ton of explosiveness in their bats. That was on full display last night as they shelled the Phillies for 10 total runs in the opener! We expect that momentum to carry over into tonight’s matchup and the Mets offense should be able to outproduce the Phillies again. New York has had a tremendous amount of success in this venue and against this team in general. They should be able to find a way once again to win and come away with the victory in Game 2.
