There is one pick today.
Take Cleveland Indians (-134) on the ML against Tampa Bay Rays risking 4.02% to win 3%.
(Salazar and Snell must start for wager to have action)
This is a matchup where we believe the advantage is much more significant that the oddsmakers have let on. The Cleveland Indians have been struggling as of late, having lost 3 of 4 heading into this four-game series with the Rays, however they will have a significant edge on the mound tonight when Danny Salazar pitches opposite of Blake Snell.
Salazar, who missed nearly 7 weeks this season with a right shoulder injury, is back and has pitched admirably since his return to the rotation. He is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts over 20 innings in his last three starts. He makes his fourth career start against the Rays in this contest and has had quite a bit of success against them in the past as he is 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA and a 0.964 WHIP over 18.2 innings against them. Salazar has also shown that he is comfortable playing in the confines of Tropicana Field as he is 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA and a 0.732 WHIP over 13.2 innings over his two career starts in this ballpark.
While Salazar has pitched well, Blake Snell will take the mound for the 15th time for the Rays and is still seeking his first victory! Snell is 0-6 with a 4.98 ERA and 1.576 WHIP in 72 innings this season. Control has been an issue for the southpaw as he has issued an extremely high 42 walks this season. Against a potent Cleveland lineup that has been struggling as of late, a matchup against Snell might be just what they need to spark their offense.
Despite Cleveland struggles they are still in the lead in the AL Central and are head and shoulders a better team than the Rays. Tampa appears to be simply playing out the remainder of the season as their hopes of catching the red Sox in the AL East as well as grabbing a Wild Card spot are slowly dwindling. If his offense provides him with some run support, Salazar should be able to outduel Snell and lead his team to a much-needed win.
