There is one pick today.
Take Tampa Bay Rays (+103) on the ML against Boston Red Sox risking 3% to win 3.09%.
(Porcello and Odorizzi must start for wager to have action)
This matchup features two teams who are currently headed in opposite directions yet the odds that the oddsmakers have set in this contest, speaks volumes about how they believe it is going to play out and we agree.
The Boston Red Sox come into this contest winners in 9 of their last 11 games, including winning 7 straight. There is no question that this team is firing on all cylinders at the moment, however, this is the particular matchup where we believe they are going to stumble. Taking the mound tonight for the Sox, will be the league’s most hittable pitcher in Rick Porcello. Porcello has had a down season this year compared to his Cy Young award-winning season a year ago. He has simply not been able to find the consistency that lifted him to a career year last year and it has shown in his statistics. He is just 5-14 on the season with an ERA of 4.70 and has given up 174 hits in 145 innings of work this season. If there is a time where the Tampa Bay offense will awaken, it will be tonight against Porcello.
While the Red Sox have been thriving, the Tampa Bay Rays have been in the midst of a slump. They come into this matchup, having lost 3 of their last 4, including Game 1 of this short two game series last night. During their losing streak, the Rays have only managed to 2 runs over their last 36 innings! The Rays have been notorious in allowing their offense to go cold at a moment's notice, however, they have shown the power in their lineup at times as well, as prior to their slump, they had average over 5 runs per game in their previous 9 contests. As quickly as their bats went cold, we expect them to heat up tonight against a struggling Rick Porcello.
This is a rivalry game for the Rays and having already lost to the division leading Red Sox last night, Tampa desperately needs to win this contest if they want to remain relevant in the playoff hunt. While a loss won't mathematically eliminate them from contention, it will drop them in the rankings, making their playoff hopes that much slimmer. Having faced Chris Sale last night and being shutout, we believe the offense will find thing much easier tonight against Porcello. Based on the recent performances of both teams, there is a reason the oddsmakers listed the Red Sox as only short favorites. This is the ideal trip-up point for the Red Sox and we believe that happens as Tampa steals this game and the series split.
