There is one pick today.
Take Minnesota Twins (-128) on the ML against Texas Rangers risking 3.84% to win 3%.
(Mejia and Griffin must start for wager to have action)
The Minnesota Twins will host the Texas Rangers as the clubs kick off a four-game series tonight from Target Field and we believe the Twins have a distinct advantage in the series opener.
A.J. Griffin will take the mound tonight for the Rangers in what we be his first start since late May when he was placed on the DL. Griffin last started on May 26th and conceded four runs in 1.1 innings to the Blue Jays. It was speculated that the right-hander was suffering from some kind of injury as he looked extremely poor with his control and posted a less than impressive 5.77 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP over his 39 innings. Against the Twins, he has had mixed results and comes into this one having allowed ten runs in 18 innings of work. While Griffin’s return to the mound will likely boost this Rangers' rotation, however, with such a lengthy layoff, it may take the veteran some time to get back into form, especially through the early innings of this contest. Rust could certainly play a factor and if the Twins can capitalize on that early, it could result in a short return for Griffin.
Adalberto Mejia will pitch opposite of Griffin and take the mound for the 17th time this season. Mejia pitched well in his previous performance, holding the A’s to only two runs in five innings for his third straight no decision. The young right-hander is having a solid rookie campaign, allowing three or fewer runs in three consecutive starts and now owns a respectable 4.07 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP to go with a 4-4 record in 79.2 innings pitched. Over his last 7 starts, he has been outstanding, posting an impressive 2.54 ERA while only allowing a total of 2 homeruns during that span.
The Rangers have struggled against left handed pitchers recently, going just 1-5 in their last 6. Given the way that Mejia has been pitching recently, and the fact that this will be the first time that the Rangers' lineup has seen him, we are fairly confident that he can reduce the damage on the mound tonight. This will likely be a close contest; however, the Twins' bats should find some success against Griffin tonight and that will allow them to come away with a series opening victory.
