There is one college hoops pick tonight.
In addition, a football pick has also been released, a day in advance.
Take Northwestern +7.5 spread against Butler for 3% of the bankroll. (Wednesday)
Northwestern is already off to a 2-0 stat with lopsided wins against Missouri Valley State and Eastern Washington and while this trip to Indianapolis will be their first road test of the young season, we believe this line shows quite a bit of value. The Butler Bulldogs are no longer the Cinderella team that they once were. Gone are the days where this team performed well beyond expectations and continued to shock the College Basketball world by making deep runs in the NCAA tournament. Teams are well aware of what this Butler team is capable of, especially at Hinkle Fieldhouse. We don't believe they will be catching a solid Northwestern team by surprise in this contest.
This year’s version of the Wildcats have high hopes of making the NCAA tournament as they return three starters plus sophomore forward Vic Law, who missed last season due to injury. In the first two games this season Law has scored 18 and 26 points respectively. Fourth-year head coach Chris Collins has just two seniors to work with but Scottie Lindsey and Isiah Brown are both averaging double figures through two games. Point guard Bryant McIntosh is considered one of the brighter prospects on the squad and had 18 points and seven assists against Eastern Washington. McIntosh could be a very exciting player to watch as the season goes on and we expect will be a difference maker in this game tonight. A strength of this Northwestern team has been their ability from long range. So far this season they are knocking down eight 3-pointers per game, connecting at a 41.5 percent clip. The Butler defenders will need to play solid on the perimeter as Northwestern is capable of raining down threes at a moment’s notice.
Hinkle Fieldhouse is a venue that certainly gets a ton of respect and that is what we believe is happening here in this contest as we believe the spread on this game is slightly inflated. While Butler is a quality team, Northwestern is no slouch of an opponent’s having won 20 games just a season ago. It's well known that strange things happen in the early part of the season and we wouldn't be surprised if this was one instances. The Wildcats play in the very tough and ultra-competitive Big 10 and we find it hard to believe Butler would be capable of knocking off a Power 5 opponents, this early in the season by near double-digits. This will likely be a closely contested matchup and while we wouldn't be surprised if the Wildcats pull off the upset as underdogs, we do believe taking the points has the most value as they should likely come into play.
Other notable facts to consider:
- Northwestern is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. Big East teams!
- Northwestern is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
- Northwestern is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games dating back to last season.
