Take San Antonio Spurs -4 spread against Utah Jazz for 3% of the bankroll. (Friday)

Gregg Popovich and his crew have built a basketball dynasty over the years in San Antonio! As the current longest-serving head coach of an NBA team, he's had time to instill a winning mentality into every fabric of this franchise. The players know what is expected of them in each and every contest and share the rock extremely well. Although they have talented players at almost every position, their philosophy is all about moving the ball to find a high percentage shot and rarely rely on isolations. When needed of course, the likes of Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge, not to mention the wily veteran that is Pau Gasol are more than capable of getting their own baskets! Meanwhile, Jonathan Simmons has improved and should play a big role for them this season.

One of the most profitable situations to back the Spurs in over the years has been after a double-digit loss! This is a proud squad that rarely drops games, let alone by a big margin. So when they do, they almost always come out fired up in the next game. Tonight, they'll likely be even more focused than usual, given that they are facing the team that handed them that ugly home defeat, in the Utah Jazz! San Antonio has been a great bet in 'revenge' situations and won't look past the Jazz as they did on Nov 1st. They'll be focused on the task at hand and execute at a high level.

The San Antonio Spurs always respond in this type of situation and have payback in mind tonight! They were handed their first loss of the season by this team and now head to Salt Lake City, a place where they've been pushed to the limit in recent meetings. Last year, they pulled out a narrow win at the end against this team but very nearly didn't as Leonard had to take matters into his own hands. That was against a Jazz squad that had Gordon Hayward, its most natural scorer, firing on all cylinders and causing problems. Tonight, he, nor Alec Burks nor former San Antonio player, Boris Diaw will be on the court! Those are 3 big losses for a Jazz squad that doesn't score easily. Each of those 3 players is very talented offensively and can get his own buckets. Without them, and against what will be a much stingier San Antonio defense this time around, we believe they'll struggle in what will likely be a low-scoring contest.

Tony Parker will miss this game for the visitors but he's hardly been at his best to start the season anyway averaging just 5.5 points and not exactly dishing out many assists. Australian veteran Patty Mills will likely start in his place and has the experience and skillset to do a more than serviceable job! Mills has been with the Spurs for a few years now and is very well-versed in the system. The players respect him in the locker room and he has the trust of the management as well. In any case, it won't be just him that'll dictate tempo. The Spurs will hand the ball to Kyle Anderson at times while Leonard and Ginobili will also have ball-handling duties as well. The playmaking ability of Center Pau Gasol shouldn't be underestimated either as coach Pop will sometimes design plays where he finds fellow big man Aldridge for assists! All in all, we don't think Parker's absence will be a big factor in this contest and if anything believe, has created value on San Antonio since they can be had for a cheap price (-4 spread) whereas it would've been -5 or more with Parker.

Other notable facts to consider:

  • Spurs have won 7 of the last 10 meetings against Utah Jazz.
  • Spurs are 29-19 ATS revenging a loss over the last 3 seasons!
  • Spurs are 196-137 ATS over the years after an upset loss as a favorite!
