Tonight's pick was released yesterday, a day in advance!
SPS firmly believes in a 'quality' over 'quantity' approach and that won't change.
Take Chicago Cubs (-140) on the ML against Cleveland Indians risking 4.2% to win 3%.
(Arrieta and Tomlin must start for wager to have action)
Will there be a winner-take-all Game 7 to decide the World Series this year? We believe so. It won't be easy but the Cubs do have several important advantages in Game 6 tonight and should come out on top. Look for this series to go right down the wire as both teams are excellent and have already had some closely contested matchups.
Joe Maddon gives the ball to last year's Cy Young award winner Jake Arrieta! Arrieta brings an impressive 3.10 ERA into to this contest and is pitching on normal rest tonight. He took a no-hitter into the 6th inning in Game 2 of this series by handcuffing the Indian bats! We don't expect him to be as flawless tonight but do believe he will outduel Josh Tomlin and give the Cubbies their best chance for a victory. Pitchers are creatures of habit and rely highly on their routine and preparation. For him to get the ball 5 days after his last outing, which is what he and other hurlers are used to, is a huge advantage.
Josh Tomlin is a veteran pitcher who's having an incredible season and one that not many saw coming! However, while he deserves credit for his resurgence, he's likely to find it tough out there tonight. He's pitching on 3-days rest and might just be a bit more tired than usual. It would surprise us if he recorded a 'quality' start! We believe Chicago's offense will cause problems for him especially with Kyle Schwarber back in the lineup. Given that this game is hoested by an American League team, the DH spot will once again be a factor and it just so happens that the National League team (Cubs) have a very dangerous bat in Schwarber who beat the odds by returning from injury much earlier than expected! He's already had some key hits in this series and it wouldn't shock us if he came up with a couple of more. Whether he does or not, doesn't matter as long as the Cubs win and they certainly have the offense to do so, as displayed all throughout the regular season. Ben Zobrist is a professional veteran hitter who takes pitches that most would swing at and there's no doubt that the likes of Javier Baez and Willson Contreras have learned a thing or two from watching him at the plate recently. If they can be patient and selective as they are capable of being, they have more firepower than the AL club.
Jake Arrieta is not only the better pitcher in this matchup in our opinion but one whose personality was made for this type of occasion! His determination and tenacity is matched by very few and makes him the ideal candidate to take the mound in a must-win game such as this one. He'll relish the opportunity of being on the hill and shouldering the pressure when others might cave. He's been excellent in elimination contests such as last year's Wild Card game against the Pirates and has the mental strength to perform on the big stage. Tomlin, on the other hand, for all his experience and talent, does not quite have the same mental strength. If the Chicago bullpen doesn't throw away the lead late, MLB fans are likely to be treated to an exciting winner-take-all Game 7! Back the visitors as they stave off elimination and live to fight another day.
