Take Seton Hall at -1 spread (buy half a point) against Creighton for 3% of the bankroll.
This will be a very interesting matchup tonight as the Creighton Blue Jays and their high powered offense take on the stellar defense of the Seton Hall Pirates. Creighton will need their offense firing on all cylinders with good ball movement to have success in this contest as their defense, or lack thereof this season has been an issue for them all season. The Blue Jays are allowing an average of 72.8 points per game this season which is 205th in the nation. They have picked up some nice resume building wins this season and have been better than expected; however, they have simply been too inconsistent to get any serious consideration for the NCAA Tournament this season.
Seton Hall has also been much better than expected this season as they stand at 22-8 on the year and an even more impressive 12-6 in Big East play. They come into this matchup having won 9 of their last 11 contests and have done enough to secure their spot in the Big Dance, however they have continued to play with a chip on their shoulders. This is a team that did not get much recognition coming into this season and they have been determined to prove that they are a legitimate threat to make a deep run in both the conference and NCAA Tournament. They are currently averaging 74.4 points per game ranking them 147th overall, and are shooting 44.5% from the field as a team. Defensively the Pirates have shined, only allowing an average of 67.1 points per game, ranking them 64th overall, and are holding opponents to 40.2% shooting ranking them 37th in the nation.
This is a team that is built around solid fundamentals and that is what is needed to be a dark horse in these types of tournaments. During their recent winning streak, the Pirates have beaten Xavier, Marquette, Creighton and Providence and most recently they demolished DePaul on the road, 80-66 last Saturday. The Pirates shot 55% in that game and received an impressive 33 point performance by Isaiah Whitehead. Whitehead has been a superstar for his team and currently leads the scoring with 17.9 points per game. These two teams split the season meeting this year; however the most recent meeting back on January 30th saw Seton Hall come away with a 75-65 road victory. The Pirates outrebounded the Blue Jays 46-27 in that contest and Isaiah Whitehead led the way for the Pirates with 22 points.
This matchup has the making to be a closely contested one, however with the Pirates being the more fundamentally sound team, we expect their defense and rebounding to be able to frustrate the Blue Jays tonight and keep their high powered offense in check. Seton Hall will come up with the critical stops late in the game which will allow them create some separation on the scoreboard, picking up the win and cover.
Other notable facts to consider:
- Seton Hall is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
- Creighton has covered in only one of its last 5 meetings with Seton Hall.
- Seton Hall is 11-3 in their last 14 games against Big East teams!
