There is one pick tonight.
Take Chicago White Sox (-102) on the ML against Boston Red Sox risking 3.06% to win 3%.
(Sale and Buchholz must start for wager to have action)
The White Sox managed to snag victory away from the jaws of near certain defeat last night in an extra innings victory over the Boston Red Sox. With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th inning, the Red Sox managed to load the bases with no outs but then failed to capitalize on the advantageous situation and walk-off. It would prove costly for them as the White Sox immediately scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th to secure the improbable victory! That type of win was exactly what the Pale Hose needed to boost their confidence after some close recent losses and we expect that momentum to carry over into tonight's contest.
We also believe that this is a pitching mismatch tonight as Chris Sale takes the mound to square off against Clay Buchholz. Sale is the unquestioned Ace of this White Sox team and has been brilliant this season. Meanwhile, Buchholz has steadily been on the decline and was even demoted to the bullpen a number of weeks ago. There is a reason why he has been taken out of the starting rotation, given his propensity to give up the long ball and we believe those issues will present themselves tonight in this contest.
The Red Sox will also be without the services of the heart and soul of this team in David Ortiz. Ortiz, who has great numbers against Chris Sale in his career, will be getting the day off to rest. Meanwhile, Travis Shaw has moved from 3B to 1B and Deven Marerro will instead be getting a rare start at the 'hot-corner' so there are a lot of pieces of this team that are somewhat out of their normal element, which could certainly play a factor in this matchup. The Red Sox bullpen could also be weakened tonight as closer Craig Kimbrel has pitched in three consecutive games and may not be available in tonight’s contest for that critical ‘save’ situation which would certainly give another advantage to the Pale Hose.
Even though the Red Sox are the all-around better overall team, we do believe this is a ‘False-Favorite’ situation. Chris Sale is undoubtedly the better pitcher on the mound tonight and should be able to outduel the normally shaky Clay Buchholz. It's not often that you see a pitcher the caliber of Sale listed as an underdog and when you do, there is almost always value that should be acted upon. The 'Southsiders' have proven that they can keep the Red Sox offense at bay and we believe Sale does just that tonight and guides his team to a nice underdog win.
