There is one pick tonight.
Take NY Yankees (-108) on the ML against Baltimore Orioles risking 3.24% to win 3%.
(Cessa and Gallardo must start for wager to have action)
The New York Yankees are set to kick off a 3 game series with their division rivals, the Baltimore Orioles tonight and this is a matchup that we believe favors the Bronx Bombers.
Baltimore will send Yovanni Gallardo to the mound for his 18th start of the season. Gallardo has been wildly inconsistent on the season and has a 4-5 record with a 5.08 ERA and WHIP of 1.59! He's struggled against the Yankees in his career, going just 1-2 with a 5.47 ERA over 4 starts. He faced the Yanks back in July which saw him give up 4 earned runs in 7 innings of work, but the biggest concern was the fact that he issued 4 total walks. Control has certainly been an issue for the right hander and his 62:49 strikeout to walk ratio is one of the worst in the Majors. We have seen how allowing free passes on base has hurt teams in the past and with the Yankees being dubbed the "Bronx Bombers" for a reason, having any runners on base is always a concern when facing the Yankees inside Yankee Stadium.
New York will counter with Luis Cessa who is making just his second start of the season. Cessa was impressive in his debut as he held the LA Angels to just 3 total hits and zero earned runs through 6 innings of work on the road. The youngster looked good in his debut, especially with his first start being on the road and we expect that he will be even more comfortable now in the confines of Yankees Stadium as the crowd will surely be behind him.
The New Yorkers still have an outside shot of making the playoffs this season as they are just 4.5 games behind their opponents. This is an incredibly important series for New York and a chance for them to potentially make up some ground in the standings. The Orioles have showed some struggles as of late, both on the offensive and pitching side of things. New York meanwhile has started to show a bit of promise late in the season and has won 4 of their last 6 with their offense averaging just about 5 runs per game during that span.
The Yankees should be the fresher of the two teams heading into this series opener as they had the day off yesterday while the Orioles are going off an 0-4 defeat on the road to the Washington Nationals in their series finale. The O's had to travel after that game and now have to get ready for what should be a fairly tough series against their division rivals. The Yankees will likely have the edge on the mound and also have the better bullpen of these two teams, if Cessa can limit the damage by the Baltimore offense in the early going, New York should be able to have success against Gallardo and come away with a close win in the series opener. The value resides with the home team in this one.
