There is one pick tonight.
Take Kansas City Royals (+112) on the ML against Miami Marlins risking 3% to win 3.36%.
(Volquez and Koehler must start for wager to have action)
The Royals have been one of the hottest teams in the league in the month of August, with the league leading Chicago Cubs being the only team with a better record this month. Due to their winning streak, the Royals have climbed their way back into a potential Wild Card spot, just 5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles. There is still hope for the defending champs, however they will need to continue to pile up wins if they expect to have a shot at repeating as Champions.
They will send Edinson Volquez to the mound tonight who has had extensive success against the Marlins in his career. Volquez is a perfect 6-0 in 7 contests with an impressive 1.64 ERA! Even though he has struggled somewhat this season, the fact that he has been near unhittable against this Miami team should speak volumes of his capability to navigate this lineup, especially as Giancarlo Stanton still remains sidelined.
The Marlins will counter with Tom Koehler who has had a mediocre season thus far. Koehler is just 9-8 with a 3.82 ERA on the season. His big issue however has been his control as he has walked an above average amount of batters over the course of the season. He has issued 59 walks in 130 innings of work this season and for a team like Kansas City who plays a fundamentally sound game of baseball which relies on stealing bases and putting runners into scoring position; allowing free passes can be an absolute killer for a pitcher against a team like Kansas City.
The Marlins managed to stop the Royals lengthy winning streak last night with Jose Fernandez on the mound, however we expect that this will be a much different ballgame. The Royals haven't been shutout often this season and when they have, have proven to bounce back strong in their following performance. The Marlins have struggled against the AL and are just 2-8 in their last 10 inter-league matchups against a right handed starter. The Royals will be starting an incredibly tough series with the high-scoring Boston Red Sox next and certainly don't want to head into that series having lost two straight. This will likely be a low scoring game, however we expect Kansas City to get the timely hits when needed and come away with a closely contested underdog victory. The value is with KC in this one.
