There is one pick today.

Take Boston Red Sox (+119) on the ML against Detroit Tigers risking 3% to win 3.57%.
(Buchholz and Boyd must start for wager to have action)

This is a matchup between two teams who are currently heading in opposite directions. The Detroit Tigers have been struggling mightily as of late as they were just swept in a three game set by their division rivals, the Kansas City Royals and have now lost 8 of their last 10 games. The Tigers bats have seemingly gone cold as they are averaging just 2.4 runs per game over this stretch. This is a less than ideal time for the Tigers to be welcoming a red-hot Boston Red Sox team.

The Boston Red Sox, have been surging as of late and come into Game 1 on a 6 game winning streak, averaging nearly 8 runs per game during that span. The Boston offense currently ranks top in the league in hits, runs per game as well as on base percentage. Their pitching has been inconsistent this season, however with the way that they have been able to pile up runs at a given moment has allowed their offense to simply outduel and mask their somewhat suspect rotation. Given the way that the Detroit bats have struggled to hit anything recently, the Red Sox should certainly have the edge at the plate in this contest.

The AL East divisional race is one of the closest in the entire league. The Red Sox currently occupy the first Wild Card spot and are a single game back of the Toronto Blue Hays for the division crown. Meanwhile the Baltimore Orioles occupy the second Wild Card spot in the AL and are just a single game behind the Red Sox. It's an extremely close battle and it's likely that one of these teams from the east will be left on the outside looking in come playoff time. That being said, the Red Sox need to continue to win to solidify their spot in the standings and create some breathing room in this incredibly tight race. They are catching the Tigers at an ideal time and will likely be out for revenge, considering that Detroit swept Boston in their series back in July. Unfortunately for them, things are much different now and the Sox are now the team that is surging towards the finish line.

There is certainly no question that the odds on this game are interesting one. The Red Sox are definitely the hotter team at the moment, yet the Tigers are listed as the favorites despite losing 8 of 10. The reason for this is likely due to a less than ideal scheduling spot for the Red Sox. Boston finished a series last night against the Baltimore Orioles and then had to make the trip to Detroit for a game less than 24 hours later. There is no question that many are expecting the travel and lack of rest to affect the Sox in this early afternoon contest. While that is certainly a viable theory, we don't believe that will matter at the end of the game. Boston is currently playing much better baseball at the moment and even if they do have a sluggish performance in this contest, we expect that they will be able to overcome a slow start and generate enough offense to outhit the struggling Tigers and come away with the win. It's not too often you get a first place team in the role of an underdog, so the value is certainly there to back the Red Sox in this early afternoon matchup.
