There is one MLB pick today. In addition, Monday's football pick is being released early.

Take LA Angels on the Money Line (-127) against Texas Rangers risking 3.81% of the bankroll to win 3%.
(Santiago and Lewis must start for wager to have action)

After trading wins in the first two game of this series, it all comes down to the rubber match this afternoon. This is no doubt an extremely important game for both teams but ultimately the Angels need the win that much more! As it stands at the moment, LA is currently 3.5 games back of the Texas Rangers for the second AL WildCard spot. The Angels are currently battling it out with both Texas and Minnesota for that coveted spot and even the Tampa Bay Rays could make some noise late and spoil the party. Each and every win over these 3 teams is critical if the Halos want to have a shot at the postseason. It is extremely important that they win this game and this series and we believe the players realize that as well.

There is no question that both pitchers in this contest have struggled in the month of August and come into this matchup off a couple of rocky performances. The good news for Angels backers in this one is that lefty Hector Santiago has been spectacular against the Rangers this season, posting a 2-0 record and 1.84 ERA. This could be just the matchup that the southpaw needs to get back on track.

His counterpart, Colby Lewis, meanwhile is having an outstanding year for the Rangers as he managed to pick up a career high number of wins this season. Even though Lewis' record is somewhat impressive the fact that he owns a 4.50 ERA to go along with it shows that he has been hittable on the mound. It's also worth mentioning that 8 of his 14 wins this season have come on the road and he has nearly a 4.00 ERA on the highway this season which shows that he has been somewhat fortunate picking up wins in hostile territory while having less than stellar performances on the mound. The Halos have the power in their lineup to make Lewis pay for his mistakes on the mound. Against a proficient offense, Lewis has shown the capability to struggle on the mound especially against the Angels where he is just 6-10 in 20 career starts against the Halos with an ERA of 5.83 and a WHIP of 1.402!

Santiago will be motivated to turn around his recent fortunes and given the success he has had against the Rangers in the past, we expect his to do so and outduel Lewis on the mound. Lewis has given up 11 earned runs in his last 10.2 inning and we expect the Angels’ bats to do enough damaged to Lewis for them to come away with a closely contested victory. The Halos desperately need this win and we believe they get it. These are favorable odds to lay with what should be an extremely motivated home team.

Other notable facts to consider:

  • The Angels are 17-6 this season as a home favorite of -125 to -150!
  • The Angels own a 0.367 on-base (OBP) average against Colby Lewis!
  • The Angels are 14-8 at home when the total has been 8 to 8.5 runs this season.
