Today's pick is a smaller 2% play.
Take Cleveland Indians (-135) on the Money Line against Texas Rangers risking 2% of bankroll.
(Marcum and Klein must start for wager to have action)
Two of the current hottest teams in the league square off this afternoon as the Rangers take on the Indians! Both clubs come into this contest on impressive winning streaks; however we feel that the Indians have the subtle advantages in this contest which should guide them to the victory.
Cleveland not only comes into this game the more rested team, but they have apparently stacked their lineup full of left handed and switch hitters for the sole purpose of getting to Phil Klein this afternoon. A lot of people have been talking about the Rangers' bats starting to heat up, the Indians' offense has actually been statistically better. They own a 120 OPS in the month of May which not only ranks #1 in the AL, but ranks 2nd in the entire league. They have the hitters in their lineup to expose Klein on the mound as this will only be the youngsters 2nd career start in the big leagues. This will certainly be a huge test on the road for Klein and we expect the Tribe to have a fair amount of success against the right hander today.
As much as people have been talking about the Rangers' recent offensive display, as many has been talking about the return of Josh Hamilton. Hamilton became a superstar in Texas and he's now returning to the place where it basically all started for him. There is no question that he has been in the media recently for all the wrong reasons and while many feel that Hamilton's bat will add to an already stacked lineup, we actually feel that hi presence this afternoon will likely be more of a distraction than a positive for the Rangers.
Cleveland has had an impressive track record against the Rangers in recent years going 13-3 in the last 16 meetings and even took 2 of 3 down in Arlington when these teams met just a few weeks ago. At this point in the season both of these teams have similar records and play in tough divisions. Cleveland has a chance to match the overall record of their opponents this afternoon and with a chance that both of these teams could be fighting for a Wildcard spot at the end of the season, Cleveland could certainly benefit from a win this afternoon.
A big reason why the Rangers have been successful at plating runs recently is because they have been patient at the plate and are drawing walks. With the power that Texas has in their lineup, teams cannot afford to allow any free passes on base. They have made teams pay for their mistakes. For Cleveland, Shaun Marcum will take the mound and he has been fairly solid in his short season thus far. In his last outings he managed to come away with the Win but more impressively, he didn't walk a single batter. Marcum has had a decent amount of success himself against the Rangers in his career. He's 2-0 in his career against Texas in 5 starts.
After scoring 35 runs in their last 5 games, we do expect the Rangers to have less success than they did in their series against the struggling CC Sabathia and Yankee pitchers. This will likely be a close and somewhat high scoring game, but at the end the Tribe should have enough of an edge to come away with the victory.
Other notable facts to consider:
- Texas is 8-12 after a win this season.
- Cleveland has won 8 of its last 9 games against Texas!
- Texas is just 6-16 when playing a team with a losing record!
- Cleveland is 110-59 against teams with losing records over the last 3 seasons!
