SPS has won 8 of its last 10 picks and now ranks #1 on the season among all monitored MLB handicappers!
It has been another extremely profitable week regardless of what happens today but we of course want to finish it on a high.
Take St. Louis Cardinals on the Money Line (-127) against SF Giants risking 3.81% of the bankroll to win 3%.
(Garcia and Heston must start for wager to have action)
The St. Louis Cardinals have (statistically) the league’s best pitching staff this season. They are nearly a half run better than any other team in the league this season, posting an impressive 2.65 team ERA. A lot of the Cardinal's pitching focus has been around the emergence of both Carlos Martinez and Michael Wacha, but the statistically best pitcher in the rotation and one that very few are talking about is the one taking the mound for the Red Birds this afternoon, Jaime Garcia.
Garcia has been nothing short of phenomenal this season and has posted a stellar 1.77 ERA in 13 starts this season and has allowed 3 earned runs of less in each of his starts. Garcia has also fared well against the Giants in his career with a 2-1 record and very respectable 2.16 ERA in 6 career starts. San Francisco has the best record in the league against left handed pitchers, but Garcia has been the exception. They have not had much success against him and we don't expect that they will this afternoon either.
The San Francisco Giants will counter with Chris Heston on the mound. Heston will making his return to Majors this afternoon the mound after being sent back down to the minors. The youngster has struggled since the beginning of August. In four starts this month, Heston is 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA, failing to complete five innings in three of those four outings. He is coming off of a short 4 2/3-inning appearance against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Aug 17th in which he struggled with his command throwing 104 pitches in the outing and walking five batters on the night. The Cardinals have hit Heston hard in the past and should be able to mount enough offense to pick up the league.
The Cardinals have the best record in the league, but with both the Pirates and Cubs firmly on their tails, St Louis needs to continue winning to create separation from the teams currently chasing them. The Giants do need to start piling up the wins; however they have very important series beginning tomorrow against their direct rivals, the LA dodgers. The anticipation of that series could cause some of the players to be just a bit distracted in this matchup.
Garcia has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the league this season and we believe he should continue pitching as he has all season long and put in another quality performance this afternoon. St Louis' bullpen was used sparingly last night and should be fresh and ready to go if and when they are called upon. The Cardinals have numerous advantages in this contest and we believe that'll be enough for them to pick up the win.
Other notable facts to consider:
- Giants are 1-5 in their last 6 games as an underdog.
- Giants are 1-5 in their last 6 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15!
- Giants are 1-4 in Heston’s last 5 home starts vs. a team with a winning record.
