Last night was a prime example
of why there are no such things as a "Sure Things" in the
world of sports. Anything can happen on any given night without any
kind of warning. We stepped out from the normal way that we do things
in order to make a play that on most days would have been profitable.
We nailed 3 legs of our 4 team parlay however fell short when the team
with the longest home winning streak in the league and only 6 losses
on the season, threw up a complete and utter stinker last night at home
against the struggling Nets. I've never been one to make excuses. The
play lost, plain and simple. Should it have lost? Well that is debatable.
If a similar opportunity ever presented itself would I attempt to take
advantage of it again...absolutely! (probably not in a parlay form however).
Sports are unpredictable sometimes,
there are no two ways about it. There will be unpredictable events that
happen during the course of certain games that could ultimately alter
the outcome. I wish there was a way around it, but there is not. My
job is to try limit those unpredictable events and align ourselves in
the very best possible scenario in order to take advantage of what I
feel is a "soft line" or to put us in the best possible position
to profit, however that may be. The 2 most important things in sports
investing is value and opportunity. In sports, there is a fine line
where both present themselves together; when they do you have to attempt
to take advantage of it.
It's easy to sit back after a
game has played out and scrutinize every little thing about it saying
"I should have known better" after everything has played out.
I do it every night. I go over all of my numbers and figures and see
if there was something that I potentially missed that could have shed
a little more light on the final result. A number of times I do find
something and finding those details and re-applying them has made me
a better handicapper in the long run. Last nights game was just one
of those unforeseen circumstances that happen from time to time. We
didn't get beat at the buzzer, there wasn't a missed free-throw and
there was nothing in the stats that would have pointed to the game playing
out the way it did. It's just sports. Sometimes they are just unpredictable
no matter how much research goes into it.
Having said all that; last night
is over and done with and today is a new day with new opportunities.
It's time to get back on the winning track. Today we have 3 College
